KUALA LUMPUR: A former lawyer pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court today to criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM654,280.25 two years ago.

Fadzila Said, 42, was charged with misappropriating RM654,280.25 which was the real estate property tax from a RM13,085,605 transaction, in her capacity as a lawyer with Messrs Fadzila & Co.

She allegedly committed the offence at Maybank Desa Pandan, Cheras on Aug 28 2012. The charge under Section 409 of the Penal Code is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, caning and fine, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Svetlana Mohd Noor Nordin did not offer any bail on the grounds that it was a serious offence.

The accused’s lawyer Shamsul Sulaiman, however appealed for bail submitting that his client had two children, nine and 13, and also suffered from diabetes, hypertension, heart problems and kidney disease.

Judge Norsharidah Awang set bail at RM50,000 with one surety, ordered Fadzila to report once a month at the Kajang Police Station and for her passport to be impounded. Case remention was fixed for April 3. – Bernama
